Aim: This study sought to give a detailed account of the patient presenting with persistent fatigue, bilateral lower extremity swelling, and difficulty concentrating.
Methods: This was a case study involving a 48-year-old adult male who is a construction worker. The patient presented himself to Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan hospital on 21st September 2023. The complaints included persistent fatigue, bilateral lower extremity swelling, and difficulty concentrating. Further diagnostic investigations, such as blood tests, were warranted to determine the underlying cause and severity of his condition. Nephrology consultation was essential for the development of a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to address the specific factors contributing to Mr. Mitchell's chronic renal failure.
Results: The laboratory findings aligned with the clinical presentation and supported the diagnosis of chronic renal failure. The elevated BUN and creatinine levels, along with proteinuria and hematuria, were indicative of impaired kidney function. Additionally, the abnormal glucose levels accentuated the importance of addressing diabetes management in the overall care plan.
Conclusion: This case highlighted the complexity of managing chronic renal failure. It requires a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach that addresses the underlying causes, optimizes medical management, and promotes lifestyle modifications.
Recommendations: This study recommends coordination of care among healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, nephrologists, dietitians, and other specialists. The coordination of care is crucial for optimizing outcomes and improving patient's overall quality of life. The study also recommends continuous check-ups and screening for related conditions among close relatives of a patient presenting with similar symptoms. Additionally, patient education regarding the importance of consistent medication use and potential side effects is crucial for long-term health management.
